What is style?
Lays the foundation for the rest of the challenge, starting with a quick bit of theory: the 5 key elements of style.
"Genevieve, I've been drawing, following tutorials, doing challenges and courses, all the things⦠and I still haven't found my vibe.
So WHY on earth do you think this challenge is what will help me?"
I took approximately a bajillion courses when I started my own journey. They were either all about what that one teacher was doing, or way too vague and floofy.
That's not how my brain works (and if you found me through YouTube, I'm guessing it's not how yours works either, haha π
)
So I set out to actually understand style, and built a framework so clear you literally can't miss it.
It's built on the 5 elements of style, the blueprint behind every art style you've ever seen.
I tested it with a small group first, and holy cannoli, the results! Within a week, people were noticing things in their art they had never seen before, whether they'd been drawing for a few months or for years.
Each chapter revolves around a style-related question, and follows the same three-step structure:
A mix of theory and thought experiments to get you thinking about style in brand-new ways.
Learn about what you like by observing the world around you.
Close the chapter by drawing from a prompt, and compare with other artists doing the same.
Lays the foundation for the rest of the challenge, starting with a quick bit of theory: the 5 key elements of style.
The big question: how do you find your style? (and also... is style even something you can find?)
Why references matter for both information and inspiration, and how to use them well (and legally!).
Tackling some existential questions and exploring the style continuum.
Can an artist exist without a style?
Can you have multiple styles?
A quick (and painless, pinky promise!) overview of the stylistic movements that shaped the art we know today.
Applying everything from chapters 1β5 to characters (aka one of your biggest style opportunities)
Style isn't linear! Here's how to keep yours evolving, and what to do when things get hard.
The workbook is built with a spiral path so it can be done over and over again, each pass showing you something new.
The true magic of the Find Your Style Challenge is the community where you get to compare your results with other artists who worked from the same starting point.

Don't just blindly trust a girl from the internetβ¦
listen to what other artists are saying instead! π
The workbook has changed my perspective of style immensely, and I would recommend it to all artists.
Well written with fun exercises that get you out of the comfort zone while learning to bridge the artistic gap and make art that makes sense to you!
No! It's a challenge, so a mix of short theory, reflections and drawing exercises, with videos to guide you through everything :)
You need a grasp of the basics before starting this challenge.
It's not for total beginners: it's about drawing with more fun and intention, not learning how to draw.
Each chapter has 10β15 minutes of videos + a challenge that takes anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on how intense you want to be with it.
One chapter unlocks each week, then everything is yours forever.
No installs. The community lives inside your It's Drawing Time account, right with the videos and workbook. There's a chat area to meet other artists and bounce ideas, and more "official" threads for each challenge.
No, this isn't a skills course, so there's no constructive criticism. BUT I am active in the community, and I'm happy to answer questions about your style, and help you notice what you already have going on in your pieces.
Strengthen it! The challenge will help you double down on what's working, and throw away what isn't.
As much as I'd love to open a style shop or become a stylesmith, no one can hand you a style (boo!) Instead, structured experiments and reflections will help you see your own preferences more clearly so you can make intentional choices.
Whatever drawing tools you usually work with! iPad, pencil, pens, paint. It doesn't matter!
Note: the challenges will sometimes invite you to try new mediums, so there will be plenty of time to experiment with that new set of markers you bought but haven't tried yet.
There are English captions for all videos. Need another language? Submit a request to [email protected] :)
